The birth date of 04-OCT-1846 appears on Ancestry.com many times (probably copy-paste work), but I have not any documentation for this date. Assuming death certificate for Phineas Ewing Shook, a death at age 66 would make his birth about 1848. The information was so scant on the death certificate, though, that the age of death was probably a guess. So a birth date of 1846 is plausible.

Phineas was recorded on the 1910 census living in Hood County, Texas. On 14-MAY-1914 the death of a Shook in Hood County, Texas is recorded in the death index as N. E. Shook and the death certificate as F. Q. Shook. The is very little information on the death certificate other than the name (which looks like F. E. Shook), age of 66 years, and the date of death. Burial was recorded as Buckman, Texas. The informant is diffucult to read but looks like it starts with R. E. Mu??? Given that no other Shook death was recorded in Hood count until 1932 (Finas Dayle Shook), I believe that death certificate 10436 was Phineas Ewing Shook.
