Obituary

W. A. Shook was born in the state of Tennessee, in 1824, and was born of the Spirit in 1841, and was married in 1844; was licensed to preach in 1840; admitted on trial into the East Texas Conference in 1861. In the the division of that Conference he fell into the Trinity Conference. He was local only one year. He departed his transitory life, surrounded by his wife and children in sorrow to witness his death. He died as the good man dies - calmly, quietly and triumphantly, on the 29 day of September 1887, at his home in the city of Sulphur Springs. The was no voice to answer the roll call, only that "Brother W. A. Shook is dead." O how it brings sorrow to our hearts! and no eulogy by tonque or pen can add to his happiness, for he has entered into his Master's joy. We asked him, in his last suffering, what was the condition of his mind and heart. He said: "I am all right; I am all right." He lived right, and of course was ready to go to his reward. While he did not lay up treasure on earth, he has obtained that gold which will never rust. He will live in the hearts of his brethren of the North Texas Conference, and of the multitudes who have been converted under his ministry.
