McGlophlin (nee Bessie Ellen Shook) and Beulah A. Dickerson may have been misspelled (nee Bulah Ada Shook). The three grandchildren mentioned were Ted Shook, Dennis Shook, and Jan Shook, Jr.

History

Earl was born in Montgomery County, Texas. Unfortunately, his mother, Tassie (Pate) Shook, did not live to see his second birthday. So he never quite new his biological mother. Indeed, Bessie (Briscoe) Shook was the only mother he ever new, and all of Earl's children knew Bessie as their grandmother. How much of Earl's childhood was spent in Montgomery County is unknown. However, Earl seemed to be quite familiar with Tassie's family as he visited the Tomball area occasionally with his own children (especially Dean). Indeed, names like Grandpa and Aunt Emma seem to be directed at the Pate side of the family with few, if any references, by J.E., Jan, or Dean Shook about the Shook side of the family (other than Joe).

By 1917, Joe Shook's WWI Draft Registration Card show Joe and Earl living in Goose Creek, Texas (now Baytown). Earl would have been eight years old at that time. Just when Joe and Earl arrived at Goose Creek is unknown, but Earl went on to graduate from the Goose Creek High School in 1927 or 1928. After graduation, he probably worked in the oil business for some time, as that was the occupation of Joe Shook. Later, Earl studied pharmacy through a corresponce course and eventually passed the tests he needed to become a pharmacist. It was the occupation of Pharmacist that everyone remembers him, as he was a pharmacists for much of his life.

By his early twenties, Earl had met Effie Agnes Giroir. She had lived in the Goose Creek/Baytown area most of her life. Where and how they met is unknown.

According to Dean, Earl was Methodist (as indicated by his obiturary). Although he did not regularly go to church, he did attend every Easter Sunday. Catholicism was introduced by Effie, which is due to her French-Acadian ancestry.
