Obituary

James "Jimmy" Shook, 68, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.

Jimmy was born June 28, 1944, in Great Falls, Mont., to A. M. and Clara Shook. He was raised in Hale Center by his grandparents and attended Hale Center High School.

Jimmy joined the Marine Corp in February 1964 and fought for his country, serving two tours in Vietnam with his heavy artillery battalion. With the rank of sergeant, Jimmy was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp in January 1968.

On May 30, 1968, Jimmy married the love of his life, Sandra Seely, and they lived in Hale Center until moving to Amarillo in December 1973. Jimmy worked at Safeway as a meat cutter until opening his own grocery store, K-O Foods.

After closing his grocery store in 1982, he went to work for Southwest Airlines as a ramp agent. Jimmy retired from Southwest Airlines in 1997. He loved his church and loved his missionary work. Model trains were another hobby of Jimmy’s, as he also was a member of Amarillo Train Museum.

Above all, he was a family man and his grandchildren were his life. Jimmy was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather and he will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Shook; a son, James Shook of Amarillo; his daughters, Michelle Brinson and husband Lyle of Amarillo and Mary Helen Prince and husband Billy of Abilene; his brothers, Jack Shook and wife Ritha of El Paso and Mike Seely and wife Cindy of Big Spring; and his grandchildren, Hanna Brinson, Joshua Brinson, Jordan Aaron Shook, Jared Alan Shook, James Wesley and Ashley Nicole.

The family suggests memorials be to Bob and Patty Noskers Ministry, 7301 N.E. 14 Mile Road, Rockford, MI 49341 to help their ministry in assisting the Pemon Indians.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
