Notes
James Madison Cole and his family went to south Texas, where he engaged in raising cattle, but sometime after 1870, returned to Dallas, as he thought it would mean better schooling for the children.
After her marriage, Sarah Ann took her 7-year old sister, Mary Jane, into her home and raised her, because the step-mother was too harsh with the child. She also took and raised her orphaned niece and nephew Nora Eppie and Wade H. Bennett, children of her brother, Lewis Clark Bennett, when their mother died.
Specific birth dates are those given by family. Carrie Clementine Cole became a physician; never married.
John P. Cole had come to Dallas County, Texas, in 1843, as a member of the Peters Colony. He was the first physician and pharmacist in the new settlement. He was born in 1809 Virginia; died May 5, 1850, in Dallas, Texas. (Data from Ruth Lucas Gilliband and Nora Bennett Cole.)
