Members of the James Madison Cole family were early pioneers of Dallas County, Texas. After his death in 1883, several of his children moved to California. In this photo taken before 1920, left to right, are Nettie Isabelle (Cole) Snook, Elizabeth Jane "Jennie" Dobbs (Cole) Huguley, Lucy Ann (Cole) Morris, Charles Bennet Cole, Carrie Clementine Cole, Mary Alice (Cole) Lucas.
