Notes

Arthur's middle name is Barnet in his WWI Draft record and Burnett in his death certificate. His son, Leroy's middle name is Barnet in his birth records. Hence, I have recorded Arthur's middle name as Barnet (with a reference to Burnett for tracking purposes). Arthur's birth date is also not consistent. Arthur provides a birth date of 16-OCT-1882 in his WWI Draft record, whereas his son, William H. Sanders, provided 12-OCT-1872 on his death certificate. I'm sure William knew when they celebrated his father's birthday; however, the birth year of 1872 would have made Arthur's father, Thomas, only 15 years old. Consequently, I have ignored the death certificate and recorded Arthur's birth date as 16-OCT-1882. As shown in the census records below, the ages for Arthur and Sarah vary widely and are not consistent. Moreover, the birthplace of Alabama and Texas for Sarah (or Sarah's) is odd For now, I've left census records as found on Ancestry.com since the Arthur / Sarah pair with children is consistent.

A posting on an Ancestry.com message boards reads: " Arthur Burnett Sanders died in Liberty County, Texas. He was my grandfather. I don't have much information on my Sanders relatives other than this. His wife was Sarah Josephine Roach. Her first husband was a Howell. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail me at jbentley42@hotmail.com. Dick Arthur Sanders was adopted by Wilkie and Edith Bentley and this is my father."
