Birth Date

There are three sources recording Mose's birth date: 1) the death certificate, 2) the headstone, and 3) the census records. The death certificate records his death as 08-DEC-1866. While the birth day is probably correct (assuming his daughter, Dixie Clarkie (Oliver) Arnold, knew his birth day, the birth year is almost certainly incorrect - possibly a clerical error or Dixie's state of mind at the time of Mose's death. The headstone records his birth year as 1859. So assuming a birth date of 08-DEC-1859 seems reasonable. Moreover, all the census records put his birth year between 1858 and 1860.

Assuming 08-DEC-1859 as the birth date does create on question, though. The 1860 United States Census was enumerated on 18-JUN-1860. If Mose was born on 08-DEC-1859, he should have been been recorded on that census. Either Mose was left off the census or his birth year was actually 1860 (or later).
