Obituary
Briscoe, James "Jim" YOUTH LOSES BATTLE FOR LIFE Youth, Victim of Halloween Accident, Dies
After lingering in the hospital here since Halloween night, when he was accidentally shot in the head and eye, James Briscoe died this morning at 5:30. He was the victim of an accident which occurred at Sheridan, Colorado County, when he darted past a young man mounted on a horse with a gun across the saddle. His quick dash caused the horse to lurch to one side and discharged the gun. On being rushed to the Yoakum hospital for an operation at which part of his brains were removed, it was reported, leaving him without the senses of taste and smell. He lingered twenty-seven days, passing away at the age of 17 years, 11 months and 27 days.
Services were held for him here this morning at the Buffinton undertaking parlor by Rev. G. B. Strickler.
His remains were to be shipped to Sheridan today on number two from San Antonio. Announcement has been made that the burial will take place tomorrow. [Interment in Cheetham Cemetery] James Briscoe was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jule Briscoe of Sheridan, and was a school boy when the accident befell him.
His tragic injury and death are horrible to chronicle and the Herald extends its sympathy to his bereaved relatives and friends. -- Yoakum Herald, Nov. 28.
