LEWIS CLARK BENNETT, Called "Clark", son of Hiram and Dosia (Dobbs) Bennett. born Jan. 7, 1833, in Georgia died before 1892 (M & B Hist. Dallas Co.) married: ca. 1867/68, near Crosby, Harris Co., Texas. REBECCA ELIZABETH SHOOK born ca 1845 (census) died after 1880 (still living in 1880 census)
Note 2
Lewis Clark Bennett is shown in the 1850 census of Dallas County as a 17 year old Ranger. He does not show in Dallas County in later census. The story his daughter told is that in the performance of his duty as a Ranger, he shot a man in the back. Whether the shooting was strictly accidental or necessary in the line of duty is undetermined. So Clark left the Dallas area and went to Harris County, where he married and is found in the 1880 census. His wife died and his sister, Sarah Cole, then married to James M. Cole, took the orphaned children and raised them.
