Notes
Note that Fannie's death certificate records her burial in the Oklahoma Cemetery; however, both her and Walter are marked by a double marker in the Pate Cemetery (and assumed to be buried there). Also note that Fannie's headstone records her birth as 1873, which also conflicts with her death certificate (recorded by husband Walter). Perhaps the double marker was handled by one of Walter's relatives when he died (since he died later than Fannie) and Fannie's birth date was recorded incorrectly.
As far as I can tell, Fannie and Walter never had children. My grandfather, Jesse Earl "Earl" Shook, is recorded in the 1910 U.S Census (enumerated in May 1910) living with Fannie, Walter, and a cousin (Josh Pate). Earl's mother, Tassie (Pate) Shook, died on March 10, 1910. So Earl would had been without his mother for about two months or so. As Tassie's older sister, Fannie may have been helping Earl and his widowed father, Joseph Webster " Joe" Shook. I know that my uncle, Dean Anthony Shook (Earl's youngest child) has fond memories of "Uncle Walter". This is second-hand information, but I'm sure on trips to visit the Pate family Dean tagged along with Earl. Dean remembers Uncle Walter having skin cancer on his face and pouring acid on it to get rid of it (and thinking, boy Uncle Walter is a tough old bird). Dean also rmembers Uncle Walter living on a houseboat, perhaps on Turtle Bayou in Chambers County, Texas.
