Charlie's death certificate records that he was hit by a passing automobile on road. He died of head injuries within four hours at the hospital. Also note that Charlie's father Wilson provided the information for the death certificate and that Charlie is recorded as "Charley Pate Jr." Subseqeuntly, Charlie is recorded in the Texas Death Index as Charley Pate, Jr. The headstone, however, was engraved as Charlie. The Texas Birth Index records Charlie as Charles. I have recorded the given name above as Charlie for now, which follows the name on the headstone (as I have partiicular interest in the Pate Cemetery) -- Jan J. Shook, Jr.
